1975
— The Journey Begins
Armed Police Battalion (APBn) launched its journey in 1975 with an aim to maintain internal security, contain armed gangs, recover illegal arms and explosives, and help police in maintaining law and order.

1979
— Legal Framework
The force took shape under the Armed Police Battalion Ordinance 1979 (Ordinance No. XXV of 1979) and the Armed Police Battalion Rules 1991, operating within the structure of the police department.

Present
— Command Structure
Battalion Headquarters are served under an Additional IGP. Under these headquarters there are 11 battalions of the APBn range, while the Special Security and Protection Battalion (SPBn) range has 2 battalions protecting key installations.

The force provides special security to important persons, serves as house guard, escorts vehicles and conducts intelligence activities across the country.

Role of APBn
Our Responsibilities
- Responsibilities regarding Domestic Security.
- Recovering illegal weapons, ammunition, explosives and other such items.
- Arresting armed and dangerous terrorists.
- Assisting other law enforcers in the administration only of law.
- Collecting intelligence on terrorists and terrorism.
- Investigation of any crime under the order of the government.
- Perform any national duty as directed by the Government.
